Barnsdale Gardens & Rutland Water

We had almost perfect conditions for taking photographs in a garden setting: warm sunshine, a light breeze and good visibility. 39 individual gardens are spread over an 8-acre site, and there are no slopes or awkward steps to negotiate. You just drift from one quiet haven of calm to another one, taking in the different scents and colours, and all this to a backdrop of birdsong. It is so relaxing and stress-free.

In the afternoon, we took a pleasure cruise around Rutland Water aboard The Rutland Belle where the surface was like a millpond. A commentary on the boat gave us the history of the makings of Rutland Water as well as pointing out the distinguishing features on the shoreline.
