Belton House

Belton House is a National Trust property near Grantham in Lincolnshire. The mansion is surrounded by formal gardens and a series of avenues leading to follies within a larger wooded park. The house has been described as the most complete example of a typical country house.

It was a hot sultry day and the light was a bit flat around lunchtime. The orangery was cool inside though and most of us spent time in there admiring the exotic plants and the plentiful variety of colours and scents. It is probably the most visited site on the estate.

There are two lakes at the furthest end of the grounds and the boathouse offered us a few photo opportunities.

The house was itself open after 12:00, even though that is not immediately apparent if you look up the website for a particular day.

In all, it had much to offer, certainly more than on our previous outing to Charlecote Park.
