Birmingham

There were ten of us who visited Birmingham to view 2 exhibitions: a monochrome display by The Photographic Angle (TPA), in which 2 of our members, Tony Lucas and Dave Miller, had exhibits, and also a roving exhibition of some of the winners of the Landscape Photographer of the Year which was showing at that time under the main atrium of Birmingham New Street station.

Walking between these venues, we took in Birmingham New Street station itself, The Library of Birmingham, where we had lunch, and Centenary Square just in front of it, Birmingham Cathedral which was open in the morning yet closed in the afternoon, a demolition site where giant claws were gouging at a six-storey building, tub-thumpers in New Street, street musicians all over the place and lastly performers at the International Dance Festival Birmingham, a biennial event, who were dancing on a specially erected stage in the Bullring and, so Tony Lucas tells me, on a phone box nearby! See www.idfb.co.uk for more information.

Let it be noted that on this day, May 7th, the temperature was in the high seventies, though mercifully possible thunderstorms did not materialise. And, just the week before, we had had night frosts.
