Castle Ashby House is the seat of the Marquess of Northampton. Our request to take photographs in the private garden next to the house was turned down, but it wasn’t a problem.
Our outing visited Castle Ashby Gardens, which are open to the public all year round with the tea rooms only open in the summer months. It was pleasantly warm with cloudless skies on hand after we had finished our coffee. It certainly paid off pre-ordering our lunch as the café was busy at lunch time. We had one of our best attendances for some time: in total, 18 wandered round the grounds to visit the church, orangery and Italian gardens and the menagerie as well as following the nature trail through the arboretum down to the lake.
Most stayed on after lunch and the day was completed by a few sampling the delicious cakes on offer in mid-afternoon.
