Ely

The city of Ely is dominated by its massive cathedral, 'the ship of the Fens'. It stands in the middle of the second smallest city in the UK, overlooking the Great Ouse river.

The day was yet another scorcher and most of the time was spent in the cool interior of the cathedral or in its immediate precincts in the shade. Even though there was a school practising for a concert, and I hope the drummer improves before the actual event, it did not really inconvenience us: there were so many side chapels to maintain our interest.

In the afternoon, a few of us walked down to the river, but we were always playing second fiddle to the intense heat. At least, we made our acquaintance with a breed of dog I've never heard of before: a Teacup Chihuahua. Now, doesn't that take the biscuit?
